The Nagao-ji temple is number 87 in the pilgrim journeyt in Shikoku. In 739, the priest Gyoki carved a Buddhist image out of the willow growing by the roadside, and this is considered to be the beginning of the temple. In front of the gate you will see two buildings on the right and left facing each other, located there because copies of Buddhist sutras are buried underneath.
